Rick Roth, Pharmacist Owner
Richard Roth grew up in the pharmacy business. He started at Apex Pharmacy when he was in grade school as a janitor and did everything from delivery boy, clerk to technician. From the beginning, he learned how hard work and long hours run a successful business. He observed how the pharmacist was able to maintain a warm relationship with his patrons. It made an impression on Richard that he carries through as the core of his philosophy for success today.
After graduating from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy with a B.S. Degree in pharmacy, he joined Apex Pharmacy in 1989. At the same time, he worked part time at a local hospital which taught him how to successfully interact with other health care professionals. Triaging lead to the understanding of how to recommend the most appropriate drug protocols for their patients.
When he started at Apex Pharmacy, Richard worked in their long term care division. He was integral in developing policies and procedures for 20 staff members. Maintaining this program, along with overseeing staff follow through were additional skill sets he successfully acquired. Quality assurance procedures were put in place. For Richard, these were all invaluable learning tools for his future.
Richard headed up a reach-out program in local nursing homes to review drug utilization and patient profiles. This professional integrated team approach with physicians and nursing home staff afforded better quality care for the patients. He attended the nursing home patient care meetings to insure that the pharmacy and drug protocol was maximized for patient health.
Apex long term care division changed hands in 2002. Richard took this the opportunity to grow Apex into a community based prescription pharmacy. Through traditional marketing and advertising, he reached out to serve the medical professionals and new customers alike.
Today, Apex Pharmacy has reached new heights under Richard Roth’s leadership. They have developed a niche in compounding with their own lab on location. By asking for input from local physicians, dermatologists, OBGYNs and more, Apex not only serves their patient’s needs with their compounding lab but also maintains an open discourse with professional over the years.

Richard Roth continues to serve the community by participating in chamber activities, and being involved in community school activities. Recently, he was accredited by the Professional Compounding Center of America and offers a training program on location. He is a member of Connecticut Pharmacist Association, National Association of Community Pharmacists and International Association of Compounding Pharmacists.
When Richard is not on the prescription counter, negotiating with suppliers, overseeing insurance reimbursements and maintaining the pharmacy store, he is enjoying his family time with his wife and three active boys.
